Talysarn Community Centre has just been awarded £62,372 in Communities First Funding to meet the running costs of the new Community Centre until March 2008.

Carys Pritchard, the Community Centre Chairperson said "this is really terrific news for the community and we are very grateful for the support of the Talysarn & Nantlle Communities First Partnership in securing this money on our behalf. The funding will allow us to employ two part time staff to help run the centre, meet our running costs for the next couple of years and to promote & develop the activities on offer to the community".

"The new centre will be used by a large cross section of local groups including Clwb Pobl Ifanc; our local youth group, Clwb Silyn; a senior citizens group and Grwp Blodeuwedd; a community gardening group who organise regular afternoon tea events. We are also hoping that the centre will be used for Adult Education & Night school classes, for concerts, plant and craft fairs and even for wedding receptions and other functions. Once the new centre is built it will mean that for the first time Talysarn will have a large, modern, state of the art facility available to the community".

Tom Coleman, a member of committee added "the building is now really taking shape and we hope it will be fully completed and ready for use by late February 2006. We have received £13,000 in funding from Gwynedd Council’s CHEST fund to install a commercial type kitchen; we hope to use this to develop a healthy eating project and Clwb Silyn is planning a Luncheon Club for the older members of our community. The funding from Communities First means that we can really develop Talysarn Community Centre over the next couple of years into a facility that not only benefits our community but will also be sustainable in the long term"

Once the building is completed the centre will also house a computer suite with Broadband Internet connection for community use, a facility specially designed for very young children that will be used by a parent & toddler group, a large auditorium / main hall with a seating capacity of approximately 120, a meeting room and a cafe / social area. The new building has been designed with full disabled access & toilet facilities.
